Elgato devises a solution to distinguish the extremely difficult to understand USB cable at a glance
There are actually many different types of 'USB', and they can be called 'USB 3.0', 'USB 3.1 Gen 1', 'USB 3.2 Gen 1×1', or 'SuperSpeed'. So it falls apart. It's hard to know which one has the best transfer speed, and there are many commercially available USB cables in particular that you can't tell the type of after you take them out of the package. Recently, Elgato has come up with an innovative solution to the confusing cable situation.

USB-IF, a non-profit organization that promotes the use of USB, requires the following logo to be created and printed on cables and packages, but there are not many manufacturers that print it on cables, let alone packages.
Elgato's answer was to print text on the connector. Below is the cable that came with the Elgato
Julian Festo, Elgato's senior vice president, posted on It can be seen that similar printing is done on other cables as well. However, it is unclear whether 'information other than the version and transfer speed' will be included, such as whether the current is 3A or 5A.
Happy to see this start rolling out. You'll see spec data on all Elgato USB and HDMI cables going forward. No more guessing if the cable is the culprit of a tech issue. https://t.co/7tosJLcsCp
