'I will be forever grateful for my time at Microsoft and the amazing people I was able to build products with,' Panay said in a post on X.

Rajesh Jha, Microsoft's vice president of experiences and devices, sent an email to employees with the following content:

“After nearly 20 years at Microsoft, Panos Panay has decided to leave the company. Panos has had an incredible impact not only on our products and culture, but on the broader device ecosystem. Under Panos' leadership, the team has created the Surface brand and beloved products, and most recently, as the Windows leader, he brings great Windows 11 services and experiences to innovative devices, including those from our OEM partners. He has served hundreds of millions of people, and while I am deeply saddened to see him retire, I am extremely grateful for his many years of service. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.'
