What is 'solid-state active cooling' that is card-sized but can cool the CPU and GPU more thoroughly and quietly than conventional fans?
In order to dissipate the heat that inevitably comes out when a computer is running, computers are equipped with cooling devices, such as air-cooled devices that use large fans to lower the temperature, or water-cooled devices that use pipes to pass coolant through them to lower the temperature. American startup Frore Systems has developed a palm-sized technology called Solid State Active Cooling that is quieter and more efficient than conventional technology, and unveiled it at

The new cooling technology 'Solid State Active Cooling' developed by Frore Systems can be seen in the following movie.

This is the 'AirJet Mini' that puts solid-state active cooling into practical use. The size is 41.5mm long x 27.5mm wide x 2.8mm wide, which is just a little larger than an SD card. According to Frore Systems, it provides higher air pressure than conventional fans while reducing noise and providing up to twice the cooling performance.
Also available is the AirJet Pro (left), which has the performance of two AirJet Minis (right).
The feature of solid-state active cooling is a special membrane inside that vibrates at ultrasonic frequencies to create airflow, which passes through the heat spreader at the base, removing heat and exhausting it. Frore Systems has not revealed the specific technology, calling it a 'trade secret,' but the special membrane resonates with something called 'structural resonance,' and is designed to generate maximum vibration with minimal power.
Air is drawn in through four slits on the top of the AirJet Mini and exhausted out the side.
According to Frore Systems, the AirJet Mini has an operating power of 1W and exhausts the equivalent of 5.25W of heat. The airflow is quite strong, and at the COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2023 booth, a demonstration was shown in which the exhaust from the AirJet Pro was used to float a ping-pong ball.
According to Frore Systems, the AirJet Mini and AirJet Pro can blow air at more than 10 times the pressure of a typical laptop fan, and the noise level of the fan is less than 21-24 dBA. This noise level of 21-24 dBA is about the same as
In addition, if you place a laptop with a fan on the bottom, it will tend to get hot when you place it on a bed or carpet, but unlike a normal fan, the AirJet Mini and AirJet Pro come out from the side, so Frore Systems says it can solve the problem of the laptop's exhaust heat getting trapped depending on where you place it.
However, it is unclear how expensive it will be to manufacture the AirJet Mini and AirJet Pro with solid-state active cooling. Frore Systems said, 'We are partnering with multiple OEMs and expect to have products on the market in 2023.' In addition, semiconductor manufacturer Intel is helping bring solid-state active cooling to market.
