Since October 2022, someone has booked expensive rooms at luxury hotels in at least six countries, including the United States, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Turkey, and Hong Kong and Macao in China. The names of the reservation holders were Su Yutong, a reporter for Radio Free Asia who lives in Germany, and Wang Jingyu and Bob Fu, who are activists. Of course, Mr. Su and others were not aware that the hotel was booked under their own name, and it is believed that someone who made the reservation used the personal information of the three people without permission.

According to Mr. Su, a hotel in Istanbul was booked under Mr. Su's name, and then a bomb threat was made. It seems that the hotel staff had a direct conversation with Mr. Su, and it turned out that the bomb threat was a Kyogen, and the investigation of the incident is ongoing at the time of writing the article.

Also, according to Mr. Wang and Axios, bomb threats were made not only to the hotel but also to the Chinese embassies in the Netherlands and Norway, and the criminal said Mr. Wang's name. Therefore, the police actually detained Mr. Wang. In addition, hotel reservations in New York and Houston were made in Mr. Fu's name, and it seems that there was a bomb threat after that. The hotel seems to have confirmed by calling Mr. Fu, and this incident is also under investigation by the FBI and local police at the time of writing the article.

Su, Wang and Fu told Axios that the series of bomb threats was a ruse by the Chinese government. In fact, Dutch police report that the bomb threats were most likely made from IP addresses in China and Hong Kong. According to Axios, the method of detaining targets overseas by reporting to local law enforcement agencies is called 'co-option.'

All three, including Su, were marked by the Chinese government. Mr. Su published a book about Li Peng , former Chinese Premier of the State Council who laid martial law in the 1989 Tiananmen Incident , was under house arrest in 2010, escaped from China and fled to Germany. Mr. Wang, who has been detained for posting comments criticizing China on social media about the border dispute between China and India, lives in the Netherlands at the time of writing. Fu also runs a non-profit organization that supports persecuted Christians and Muslims in China.

The US State Department declined to comment on Axios' interview. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: 'Any foreign interference is absolutely unacceptable. Everyone in the Netherlands should feel safe and free from intimidation by foreign regimes. If there is any indication of unwanted interference, we We will consult firmly bilaterally and take action if necessary.'
