A stamp-sized ultrasonic sticker that can be used to scan the inside of the body just by sticking it on the skin

Ultrasound scanning is often used as a method to check the condition of a patient's internal organs, but it requires a certain amount of equipment in hospitals and clinics. Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed an epoch-making device that solves this problem.

You can see what kind of equipment it is by looking at the following video.

I carefully stick something like a sticker on my arm.

It is firmly attached and cannot be peeled off by pulling it lightly.

Ultrasound scanning is realized by only this.

The device is the size of a postage stamp, so to speak, an 'ultrasonic sticker'.

Conventional ultrasonic scans required applying a gel to transmit ultrasonic waves before applying the probe (contact terminal), but it could drip or dry during long-term scanning. The ultrasonic sticker is a gel and a probe that are integrated, so just stick it on.

According to Chonghe Wang, a development member, the combination of an elastic adhesive layer and a probe allows high-resolution images to be obtained for up to 48 hours.

In addition to making the function of the ultrasonic sticker wireless, the development team is also developing a software algorithm based on artificial intelligence so that the image obtained from the sticker can be better read and used for diagnosis. In the future, it is expected that patients will purchase stickers directly and use them not only for built-in scans, but also for checking tumor progression and fetal growth monitors.
