The world's oldest giant tortoise 'Jonathan', who has lived since the Edo period, reaches the age of 190



The giant tortoise 'Jonathan' bred in St. Helena , located in the South Pacific Ocean, is known as the oldest giant tortoise in the world. It has become a hot topic that Jonathan reached the age of 190 in 2022.

Jonathan was a giant tortoise given to St. Helena in 1882 and was estimated to be '50 years old' because it was already mature at that time. Therefore, the record of '190 years old in 2022' is just an estimate, and it is said that it may actually be older than 190 years old.
