Danish artist Jens Hahning recreates Hahning's past works 'An Average Danish Annual Income' and 'An Average Austrian Annual Income' from the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art. , He was asked to create a new one. The Kunsten Museum of Modern Art has been holding an exhibition 'Work It Out' on labor since September 24, 2021, and Mr. Harning's work was scheduled to be exhibited there as well.

According to the contract between Mr. Herning and the museum, the work he reproduced would have been a visualization of his average annual income by sprinkling banknotes in a glass frame. The museum had a contract to lend Mr. Herning 534,000 kroner for the creation and to have the money returned at the end of the exhibition.

However, when the museum staff saw the work submitted by Mr. Herning, he realized that there was no cash anywhere, just a white canvas and a wooden frame. In addition, the museum staff received an email from Mr. Herning stating, 'The title of the work has been changed to'Take the Money and Run'.'

Mr. Herning insists that this work 'is not enough money to reproduce the past work'. 'People with working conditions similar to mine, who are required to pay their own money to do their jobs, should break through the situation as I do.' 'It's a protest against the compensation terms offered by the museum,' Harning said. 'It casts doubt on the rights and working conditions of artists in order to establish a more equitable norm within the arts industry.'

Mr. Lasse Anderson, the captain of the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, thought that 'Mr. Herning created an interesting work of art' and exhibited the work as it is. However, if Mr. Herning does not return the full amount at the end of the exhibition, he said, 'We will take necessary measures to ensure that the contract is complied with.' Anderson also explained, 'It was a contract to pay Herning 10,000 kroner (about 180,000 yen) as an exhibition fee for the work.'

'I'm not going to return the money. It's not a theft, it's a'contract breach', and the contract breach is part of the job,' Hahning claims.
