Photo review of 'Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G' smartphone that can be folded like a feature phone

The latest model 'Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G ' of Samsung's foldable smartphone 'Galaxy Z Flip' series will soon land in Japan. It will go on sale in early October, but I was able to get a rental machine a little earlier, so I actually checked the appearance including the folding function.

'Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G SC-54B' is a cosmetic box like this. In Japan, NTT DoCoMo and au are planning to handle it, and since this rental machine is the NTT DoCoMo version, the cosmetic box has the NTT DoCoMo logo.

The contents are the main body, a USB cable with Type-C on both ends, and a SIM eject tool. This time it was a rental machine, so the quick start guide that was originally included was not included.

This is the main body. There are two color variations, 'Cream' and 'Phantom Black', and this model is 'Cream'.

The biggest feature is that it can be folded vertically.

The fully folded state is as follows. When opened, it measures 166 mm long x 72 mm wide x 6.9 mm thick, but when folded it measures 86 mm long x 72 mm wide x 15.9 mm thick.

This 'foldable' mechanism is reminiscent of feature phones (so-called garages) that were extremely prosperous before the advent of smartphones.

Some foldable feature phones have a mechanism that opens with the touch of a button and automatically folds when closed to a shallow angle by the force of a magnet.

There is no such mechanism in Flip 3 this time.

Therefore, you can adjust the opening angle steplessly, but on the other hand, it is difficult to 'open with just one hand using the snap of the wrist' that was seen in the feature phone era. If you try to open it with just one hand, you will feel like inserting your finger into the gap in the display and then prying it open.

Now let's look at the appearance.

The main display is an approximately 6.7-inch Infinity Flex display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Dynamic AMOLED (organic EL).

At the top is a 10-megapixel punchhole in-camera.

You can see that the bent part has creases like wrinkles.

The back side is below.

The main camera has a twin-lens configuration consisting of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a wide-angle lens.

Next to the camera is a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED color display that can be tapped to display wallpaper or any image.

You can also check widgets such as notification display, music, weather forecast, today's schedule, alarm, timer, and answer calls with the terminal closed.

Furthermore, if you double-tap the power button in the fully folded state, it also functions as a preview window for the main camera, so you can take a selfie while previewing a selfie using the 12-megapixel main lens with optical image stabilization.

On the side, there is a power button and volume button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor on the right side.

There was a SIM card slot on the left side.

There is a speaker and a USB Type-C port on the bottom.

There is no interface on the top side.

The actual weight was 185g.

Some apps support the 'upper and lower screen split function' when folded and angled, and the YouTube app allows you to play movies on the upper screen, view the comment section on the lower screen, etc ...

It is also possible to display separate apps up and down. At an angle, the upper screen has the advantage of being easy to see as it stands on a smartphone stand.

Samsung 'Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G' is scheduled to appear in early October 2021, and the price is 148,896 yen including tax for docomo, and it is undecided at the time of article creation for au. After that, we plan to investigate the specifications with a benchmark and publish it as an article.
