PINE64 sponsors 'FemtoStar', an open satellite network that anyone can access anytime, anywhere
FemtoStar is a mobile satellite service that aims to build satellite constellations for open and private communications around the world. PINE64, which develops 64-bit compatible single board computers, has announced that it will participate in FemtoStar.

The concept of FemtoStar is 'a mobile satellite service that respects privacy and is neutral to the Internet, and anyone can access it anytime, anywhere.' From user terminals to spacecraft and ground stations, FemtoStar is free and open source hardware. It runs on hardware and software. The FemtoStar project group said, 'The notable point of FemtoStar is that it is the world's first wide area communication network, and even the air interface and the low-level wireless firmware that implements it are free and open source software. '.
In June 2021, PINE64 plans to release the distributed network ' PineDio Gateway System' that uses LoRa for low power consumption and long-distance data communication. At the same time, PINE64 was developing a private and secure text message network based on this PineDio gateway system.
However, the PineDio gateway system that uses LoRa is much slower than the wireless communication system that we usually use on a daily basis, so PINE64 was feeling the limit. Therefore, PINE64 seems to have tuned to FemtoStar as 'a way to build a wide area network more safely and in a way suitable for open source'.
Interesting constellation design. Not necessarily a final design for our own, but it has some rather interesting properties. Basically folds twelve orbital planes into a single continuous serpentine pattern around the world. Actually works decently well. @SaVi_satellite pic.twitter.com/vho6qkCljR

PINE64 said, 'I've been talking to FemtoStar officials for a long time, but their idea of'building a low-cost, decentralized network to enable anonymous, location-independent communication'is their idea. I believe that our community can support it. '
'PINE64 is excited to participate in our project to develop the world's first private and truly open infrastructure, 100% free and open source wide area communication network,' FemtoStar said. We look forward to the integration of our LoRa network with FemtoStar's satellite constellation. '
