Developers who suddenly deleted the app from Google Play protested, due to 'fraud related to in-app advertising' that I do not remember

Google Play, the distribution store for Android apps, also distributes many apps created by third-party developers, and Google checks the apps and strives to remove the problematic apps.

In April 2021, the developers of the app 'DroidScript ', which was removed from Google Play as 'there was fraudulent activity related to in-app advertising', protested that they were not fraudulent. I'm blaming the judgment by the automated system.

Never run Google ads if you have an Android app | by Dan Fabulich | Apr, 2021 | Medium

DroidScript is an Android app that allows you to write JavaScript on your smartphone and develop original apps, and is developed by DroidScript.org, a non-profit organization based in the United Kingdom. DroidScript has been distributed on Google Play for the past 7 years, and it has more than 100,000 users including teachers and students of schools teaching software development.

To cover development and hosting costs, DroidScript used AdMob to serve ads within the mobile app, but the app contained only one ad banner. There was also a subscription plan within the app that would allow certain features to be available.

On March 31, 2021, DroidScript.org received an email from Google stating, 'Your AdMob account has been disabled because of'invalid traffic or activity'was detected.' In other words, it was pointed out that there was a fraudulent act related to advertising with DroidScript, but the developer David Hurren had no idea at all. It seems that 30% of the app revenue was cut off at once due to the suspension of in-app advertising of DroidScript.

Hurren tried to challenge Google because Google's email stated that he could challenge the content. However, it was impossible to even identify the problem of the application because the content of the essential 'invalid traffic or activity' was not described in the email. It can't be helped, so Hurren

filed a complaint based on the speculation that 'one of the users copied the AdMob account ID from the APK and used it in another app, resulting in an ad fraud allegation.' I did it.

Hurren was hoping that the complaint would change the ID of his AdMob account or another suggestion from the AdMob team, but 11 minutes after sending the complaint email, he said, 'Provided. After considering the information you received, we have confirmed that your ad serving account cannot be restored. ' Hurren believes the reply was an auto-reply, and AdMob's ad-backed apps were instantly cut off at Google's discretion and even given the opportunity to talk to the ad team. I blame you for not.

Hurren, who lost 30% of his revenue, was upset, but decided that it would be best to replace it with a version of DroidScript that had the AdMob ad placement feature removed, and decided to release a new DroidScript. However, on April 7, one week after the suspension of the AdMob account, a new email was received from Google saying 'DroidScript was deleted from Google Play due to a violation of the advertising fraud policy'.

This is even more serious and devastating than the suspension of your AdMob account, not only is it impossible to re-upload an app named 'DroidScript', but it's also a 7-year user rating, download stats, and paid subscription service. All of my subscribers have been lost. Hurren said that because subscriptions to paid subscription services go through Google Play, Google automatically cancels paid billing and users who already have DroidScript installed can no longer access additional features. I will. This situation has had a negative impact on thousands of users, and it seems that inquiries have been received from general users and teachers who use DroidScript in class.

'Unfortunately, my trust in Google was irrelevant ... not only did they show no interest in investigating issues with our AdMob account, but they also decided to blame DroidScript for malware. Oh God! We are now really starting to feel persecuted by Google, 'Hurren blames Google.

Hurren also inquired about the removal from Google Play, and 12 days after the inquiry on April 7, a person named Cindy replied. 'If you have any additional information to share, we'll let you know immediately. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to contact us,' Hurren explained. I sent an email to do.

However, the subsequent email from Mr. Cindy seems to be a bot, 'As a result of the examination, it was found that the application violates the malware policy' 'The application does not comply with the advertisement fraud policy' 'Unfortunately, 'I can't comment on your planned implementation or provide a better answer to your question,' said Hurren, who was completely 'game over.' Says.

Hurren believes that Google's ad fraud detection is done by automated AI, and no one even inside Google knows why 'DroidScript was removed from Google Play.' Hurren said, 'We've been talking about people who have been treated very badly by Google-controlled bots over the years. I thought Google was getting better these days, but obviously I'm I was wrong. '

Dan Fabulich, chief engineer at Redfin, a website that allows you to search for real estate information online, said the DroidScript tragedy wouldn't have happened if you were using ads other than AdMob. 'Let's take the tragedy of DroidScript as a lesson for all of us. If you have an Android app, don't run Google Ads,' he warned.
