The website has been tampered with by the Federal Depository Library System (FDLP) , which operates the US Government Archives Library. On January 4, 2020, the homepage of the website was replaced with an image of Iran's flag and Alien Khamenei , Iran's supreme leader, along with an image of President Trump being beaten by Iranian soldiers.

According to the

Exif data attached to the text and images, this attacker is a hacker who claims to be 'IRAN-CYBER', but it is unknown whether IRAN-CYBER actually has any connection with the Iranian government. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Cyber Security and Infrastructure Protection Agency commented, 'There is no evidence that this is a hack with the support of the Iranian government.' 'This attack is likely to be a hacker's attempt to sympathize with the Iranian government, and in any case a trivial event,' he dismissed.

IRAN-CYBER is known to have performed 2447 tampering attacks since 2015, most of which aimed at websites with low security awareness. The server on the FDLP website that has been altered this time has not applied security patches since 2012.
