As mobile terminals evolve from mobile phones (feature phones) to smartphones, methods of exchanging messages have evolved beyond just simple text-based sentences to pictograms, rich content such as pictures and movies, SMS, which was originally created considering sending and receiving of letters, has become less usable. GSMA was advocating a new standard called RCS, as we should be able to exchange rich content comfortably between mobile terminals as well. RCS is an upwardly compatible standard for SMS and MMS, and it also has great advantage of supporting SMS and MMS.


Google will develop a platform called "Jibe" that adopts RCS. And we will adopt Jibe standard as a mobile OS "Android" provided by Google.
