Fujitsu and Toshiba to develop the new generation 2TB HDD within 2009


Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that Fujitsu and Toshiba is to release the twice larger HDD from 2009 using the next generation recording technology.

The new technology enables the 3.5 inch HDD to have 2TB capacity, while 2.5 inch HDD is going to have 1GB.

According to this article, Fujitsu and Toshiba newly developed the HDD using next generation technology that doubles the capacity of the present from 2009.

The new "Discrete Track Recording (DTR) technology" makes the record density 1.5 times more and the total capacity will be twice as large as on-going HDDs.

Fujitsu and Toshiba had hasten the scheduled HDD mass-production of 2010 to 2009 due to the success in germinating magnetic disk, the key parts.

The product like HD video recorder which has 250 recordable hours well affect not only the PC usage but also the marketing strategies.

Though SSDs are being cheaper and larger, their cost performanse ration still can't beat those of HDDs.
