スターウォーズ エピソード3の超高画質マットペイント

上記画像は実写でもなく、かといって3DCGというわけでもありません。「マットペイント」と呼ばれているものです。クリックすると拡大画像になりますが、恐ろしく緻密です。これがいわゆる立体のCGではないのだからオドロキ。

で、マットペイントというのは映像を合成するときに使う背景画像のことで、昔はガラス版に描かれていたが、近年はPhotoshopなどで作成し、しかも2Dではなく3D空間の中で作成することが可能であり、視点移動なども可能になっています。フルCGで作成するよりも早く、そして安くできるため、今でも映画制作では頻繁に使われている技法です。
