'Pion,' an AI agent that allows an entire company to be managed by AI, has emerged, enabling autonomous business operations using email, phone, and banking functions.

Andon Labs has announced ' Pion ,' a platform that allows companies to entrust not only document creation and research to AI, but also the entire management of their business to AI agents. In Pion, AI agents run continuously for extended periods, managing business operations using email, phone calls, browsers, banking functions, and more.

In typical AI chat applications, the basic usage involves humans inputting questions and instructions, and the AI returning answers or deliverables. However, running a business requires continuous long-term management of tasks such as product procurement, pricing, customer service, recruitment, and payments. To investigate whether AI can run a business over the long term, Andon Labs has conducted experiments such as 'Vending-Bench,' which uses the vending machine business as its subject.

Recognizing that simulations alone cannot adequately reproduce the unexpected problems that occur in the real world, Andon Labs is also having AI run actual businesses. In addition to operating vending machines in collaboration with Anthropic , the AI agent Luna runs the retail store 'Andon Market' in San Francisco. In Stockholm, an AI agent named Mona is handling registration, procurement, and staff recruitment for the food and beverage business 'Andon Café.' Furthermore, they have also conducted experiments to have AI run a radio station .

The newly announced 'Pion' is Andon Labs opening up the system it has been using in its experiments to the outside world.

At Pion, long-running AI agents called 'Persistent agents' handle the business operations. Humans provide general direction for the business, while the AI determines and carries out the necessary tasks. A management AI agent, 'Andonos,' oversees the status of each agent.

Since running a real company requires interaction with external parties, Pion provides its AI agent with functions such as email, phone calls, web browsing, banking, and a terminal to control computers with commands. By utilizing these functions, the AI can handle tasks such as contacting business partners, gathering information, and making payments.

However, Andon Labs describes the businesses operating on Pion as 'experiments,' and explains that there is a possibility that the AI may make incorrect decisions. Furthermore, Andon Market and Andon Café are not yet profitable at the time of writing.

Pion is currently available as a research preview, and users will be accepted sequentially from a waitlist. Andon Labs says it wants to investigate how autonomously AI can run a company and in what situations it might fail by entrusting business operations to AI in various industries.
