When using image generation AI for work, you may need to make minor adjustments after the image is created, such as 'I just want to change the color of the clothes' or 'I just want to rewrite the text.' Google Pics aims to reduce the hassle of switching between multiple tools by allowing you to perform everything from image generation to detailed editing in one place.
Google Pics uses Google's image generation and editing model, 'Nano Banana.' In addition to generating images by inputting instructions in text, it's also possible to select and move people and objects within images, and change their size and color.
Additionally, the software offers features to edit text within images and translate it into other languages. This means you can use it to make minor adjustments to specific parts of images, such as posters or social media posts, after you've already created them.

The prompt reads: 'Create a 1970s-style retro-modern vector poster for the 'OAKWOOD STREET FAIR.' It features bold, eye-catching black lettering on a cream background, a geometric patchwork pattern in dark green, pink, and gold, and incorporates retro flowers, star-shaped decorations, and undulating curved motifs. Subtext should include information such as 'Food, Art, Music, Local Vendors' and the event date and time.' Multiple options will be generated; select your preferred one.
To make partial modifications, simply click on a part of the image to select it, and then specify the changes you want to make, such as 'illustration of tacos.' It's an intuitive editing tool.
Google Pics can be used as a standalone tool, but it also features seamless integration with Google Workspace. Because you can directly edit images placed in Google Docs and Google Slides, you can reduce the need to move images to another app for editing and then paste them back in. Integration with Google Drive is also planned for the coming weeks.

Google Pics itself was announced at Google I/O in May 2026 and was initially available to a limited number of testers. This latest announcement expands its reach to include not only Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers, but also a wider range of Google Workspace corporate users.
While companies like Canva and Adobe Express offer image creation and editing tools, Google has also prepared a creative tool that can be used in conjunction with Workspace. Google is reportedly rolling out Google Pics gradually as of the time of writing.
