Ad Blocker does not block all ads; ads directly delivered by the website you are visiting and ads displayed in search results will still be shown. Sponsored shortcuts and other sponsored content that Firefox displays when you open a new tab are also not blocked.
By default, it is turned off, and users need to enable it themselves if they want to use it. Mozilla explained the reason for turning it off by default: 'Advertising supports much of the open web and is a source of funding for publishers, creators, and websites that people use. It is important to us to allow people to choose how they use the web.'
Ad Blocker works in conjunction with Firefox's built-in privacy features. For example, it includes Enhanced Tracking Protection, which can detect and block ad trackers, social media trackers, and analytics trackers.
The desktop and Android versions already support powerful ad blocking via extensions. iOS uses a different mechanism, requiring direct integration into the browser rather than using an extension.

That's where Firefox for iOS's Ad Blocker comes in.
