I tried setting up Coleman's 'Instant Visor Shade IV/L DR,' which is useful for events and BBQs, and reviewed how easy it really is to set up.

GIGAZINE sometimes sets up a booth at

local festivals and other events. We were thinking, 'We'd like a sunshade that's easy to set up to cope with the heat,' when we discovered Coleman's ' Instant Visor Shade IV/L DR ,' which features a technology called 'Dark Room Technology' that blocks sunlight from penetrating. We added it to the GIGAZINE editorial department's wish list , and a kind reader sent it to us, so we took it outdoors and checked out the setup procedure.

This is what the outer box for the Instant Visor Shade III/L DR looks like.

It seems that it can be easily set up using the 'one-touch system'.

The dimensions when in use are approximately 300cm x 300cm x 267cm, and the dimensions when stored are approximately 98cm x 19cm x 19cm. The weight is approximately 14.8kg.

The Instant Visor Shade III/L DR was inside the box, already packed in its storage bag.

The storage bag contained the 'main frame,' 'shade skin,' 'steel pegs,' 'peg bag,' and 'instruction manual/assembly instructions.'

We moved to the park to actually set up.

First, unfold the main frame.

The frame can be unfolded by holding the legs and spreading them apart. The instructions state, 'Setting up should be done by two or more people. Forcing it open may cause frame damage.'

Once things have progressed to a certain point, we'll stop for a while.

Place a shade skin over it.

Insert the ends of the frame into the pockets located at the four corners of the shade skin.

This is what it should look like.

Push up the 'One-Touch System Button' located on the top of the frame.

With the one-touch system, pressing the button causes the frame to unfold like opening an umbrella, and the shade skin becomes taut.

I recorded a video showing the process from taking it out of the storage bag to setting it up. The following video is my second time setting it up, and I was able to complete the process up to attaching the shade skin in about 3 minutes.

Once you've attached the shade skin, extend the four legs. The height can be adjusted to three different levels.

I extended all four branches. I adjusted their height to the highest point.

Secure the legs with pegs.

Next, secure the rope to the peg. First, drive the peg into the ground about 1 meter away from the legs.

Extend the rope and secure it.

The rope has an adjustable fitting, so you can easily adjust its length.

Once you've secured the four ropes, the setup is complete.

Taking it down is also easy. First, remove the rope from the peg.

Tie the ropes together to prevent them from getting tangled.

Pull down the string attached to the one-touch system button.

When you pull the string, the frame folds and the shade skin flexes.

Retract the legs and remove the shade skin.

Fold the shade skin compactly.

The frame shrinks towards the center.

Contraction complete.

Place the frame, shade skin, and pegs into the storage bag.

Close the zipper.

That completes the packing up.

I actually tried using the Instant Visor Shade IV/L DR, and found it to be easy to set up and take down, requiring no special skills or techniques; anyone can use it. I plan to make extensive use of it at future events.
