Around August 18, 2026, a leaker calling himself 'CYBERLEEK' began sharing GTA 6 gameplay footage and several map images. It was also reported that users who posted the information shared by CYBERLEEK on X received DMCA takedown requests.

According to cryptocurrency media outlet CoinDesk , the leaker allegedly boosted the price of $CYBERLEEK to approximately $25 million (about 4 billion yen) by inserting a watermark of their own meme coin, '$CYBERLEEK,' and the text 'The higher the market capitalization, the more leaks there will be' into footage of 'GTA 6.' Ultimately, the leaker is believed to have sold their tokens a few hours before the official 'GTA 6' gameplay footage was released, making a profit of $125,000 (about 20 million yen).

Following the leak, Take-Two, the developer of GTA6, filed two DMCA subpoenas with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on August 20, 2026, demanding that Microsoft and Discord identify the identity of CYBERLEEK. The following day, they also filed for subpoenas against X and Google.

In addition to the leaker's name, Take-Two requested MachineGuid and MSA device identifiers, registration and last login IP addresses, phone numbers, linked Google and Xbox connection information, and OneDrive content for all accounts that communicated on the identified Discord server, which was noteworthy as it targeted a fairly wide range of users. Take-Two stated that 'the request was issued on August 21 and promptly delivered to Discord,' but there is no record of issuance by the court clerk, and Ryan Rigney, head of marketing at Discord, revealed on X that 'Discord has not yet received a subpoena from Take Two. Once we receive it, we will evaluate its validity and scope before taking any action.'




Subsequently, on August 28, 2026, Take-Two filed a second DMCA subpoena in New York federal court. This second request was more targeted, focusing on one additional Discord user and one previously identified user. Take-Two asked the court to keep the subpoena confidential, arguing that 'there is a legitimate reason to file the request secretly, as disclosing the contents of the request could lead to the concealment of evidence and benefit the alleged infringing parties.'

As of the time of writing, Take-Two's new demands are confidential, and it is still undecided whether the court will handle them confidentially.

Take-Two also requested DMCA subpoenas against three YouTube accounts linked to the leaked videos, but a federal judge denied the request, stating that 'without more detailed information on how the targets are related to the videos, we cannot approve the request.' Take-Two provided some additional details, but withdrew the YouTube claims due to the progress of the investigation.
