Apple ends official hardware repair service for three Intel-powered MacBooks.

Apple has announced it will discontinue its official hardware repair service for Intel-based MacBooks released between 2017 and 2018. This means owners will have to rely on third-party repair services.

In June 2020, Apple announced its own proprietary SoC, Apple Silicon, and began transitioning from Intel CPUs, which had been used in Macs, to Apple Silicon.

The official hardware repair service that Apple has now discontinued applies to Intel-based MacBooks released between 2017 and 2018, prior to the announcement of Apple Silicon.

Apple classifies products that have been discontinued for more than 5 years but less than 7 years as 'vintage' and products that have been on the market for more than 7 years as 'obsolete.' Once a product is classified as obsolete, it will no longer be eligible for official hardware repair services. Service providers will also be unable to order parts for obsolete products.

The following three models have been reclassified as obsolete products, meaning Apple has discontinued its official hardware repair service for them.

・13-inch MacBook Air released in 2018
・13-inch MacBook Pro released in 2018
