Documents filed by Uber with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reveal that the company has sold all of its shares in Serve Robotics. According to the documents, Uber had been in the process of selling its shares in Serve Robotics for at least a year and had planned to reduce its stake by 2025.
However, according to sources, the final sale of all shares came as a surprise to Serve Robotics. Serve Robotics reportedly learned of the sale of all shares only after the official announcement. Technology media outlet TechCrunch has reached out to Uber for comment, but has not received a response as of the time of writing.
Serve Robotics started as Postmates X, the robotics division of the on-demand delivery startup Postmates. Postmates was acquired by Uber in 2020 for $2.65 billion (approximately 420 billion yen), and in 2021, the division spun off as an independent company, Serve Robotics.

Uber not only supports Serve Robotics, but also partnered with the company in 2022. In May 2023, they expanded their partnership and announced plans to deploy up to 2,000 autonomous delivery robots manufactured by Serve Robotics across the United States.

In its Q2 2026 earnings call, Serve Robotics stated, 'From Q1 2022 to Q1 2026, the volume of deliveries made by Serve Robotics robots through Uber increased for 17 consecutive quarters. However, in Q2 2026, this trend reversed for the first time. This is due to lower-than-expected robot utilization,' suggesting that Uber had begun to move towards severing its relationship with Serve Robotics.
In addition, Uber has invested in or partnered with more than 30 self-driving car technology companies over the past few years, and Serve Robotics is just one of them.
