I tried Lotte's new sweets, 'The BUTTER' and 'The CARAMEL,' which are meticulously crafted with butter and caramel in mind.

Lotte announced its new biscuit brand, 'The Series,' in March 2026, its first new biscuit brand in 13 years. They had been offering the financier ' The BUTTER ' and the madeleine ' The CARAMEL ' as a limited pre-sale in Eastern Japan. However, 'The BUTTER' and 'The CARAMEL' went on sale nationwide on July 21st, so I decided to try them and see for myself what they were supposed to be so meticulously crafted.

I bought 'The BUTTER' and 'The CARAMEL'.

It's a bit on the larger side for a candy box; here's what it looks like next to an iPhone 16.

First, I'll try 'The BUTTER'.

The product is called 'Western-style confectionery,' and the ingredients are as follows:

Each serving contains 131 kcal.

Peel off the lid from the center. Each box contains 3 pieces.

I took them out of their individual packaging. 'The BUTTER' is a financier with butter sauce inside.

Its size is slightly smaller than the longest side of a transit IC card.

Its height was about half the length of the shorter side of a transit IC card.

Upon cutting into it and examining the cross-section, I discovered a butter sauce in the center. Apparently, the butter sauce is a blend of two types of butter.

I took a bite of 'The BUTTER.' The fluffy financier dough is strongly complemented by the rich, creamy butter sauce, resulting in a deeply sweet yet refined flavor. The butter sauce is rich and flavorful, but it matches the financier dough well and doesn't feel cloying. If you take small bites, the sauce in the center can be hardened and too sweet, so it's probably best to cut it into quarters before eating.

The official website also recommended warming the product in a microwave or oven before eating, so I tried warming it slightly in the microwave. The guideline is 10 seconds at 600W in the microwave and 1 minute at 800W in the oven.

Heating it makes the dough softer and intensifies the aroma. When you bite into it, the juicy texture of the dough combined with the melting, fluffy butter sauce is absolutely delicious. Be careful with the cooking time as the sauce gets hot quickly.

Next, I'll try 'The CARAMEL'.

The ingredients are as follows:

Each serving contains 122 kcal.

'The CARAMEL' also comes in a box of three.

I took them out of the bag. The shape of 'The CARAMEL' is similar to 'The BUTTER,' and the size is almost the same, but while 'The BUTTER' is a financier, 'The CARAMEL' is a madeleine. Also, the dough of 'The CARAMEL' is caramel flavored, and the color is a dark brown.

When cut in half, it looks like this. Inside is a raw caramel sauce from Hokkaido.

The CARAMEL has a slightly bitter taste, with a rich caramel sauce that perfectly complements the dough, giving it a sophisticated feel. The bittersweet aftertaste of caramel makes it a dessert that pairs well with coffee or tea. Also, warming 'The CARAMEL' in a microwave or oven brings out a subtle bittersweet caramel aroma, so you can enjoy it even more by preparing it to your liking.

'The BUTTER' and 'The CARAMEL' have been on sale nationwide since July 21, 2026, with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 302 yen (tax included). They are also available on Amazon.co.jp, with a 10-pack of 'The BUTTER' priced at 2,737 yen (tax included) and a 10-pack of 'The CARAMEL' at 2,500 yen (tax included).
