On July 7, 2026, local time, Meta announced 'Muse Image,' an AI-powered image generator. Muse Image was already available through the Meta AI chat service, allowing users to edit images using Muse Image by mentioning a public Instagram account.

However, the problem with this feature was that it allowed images to be edited in Muse Image without the user's consent. Furthermore, users seemed dissatisfied that they received no notification or contact when their photos were edited in Muse Image.
Regarding this, technology media outlet TechCrunch points out that 'the ease with which other people's images can lead to problems such as misuse, harassment, impersonation, and image editing without consent.'
Following backlash from users, Meta has reportedly suspended its Instagram Muse Image feature. Dylan Byers, senior correspondent for technology media outlet Puck , posted, 'Meta has suspended a new feature that allows users to generate images by mentioning public Instagram accounts within Meta AI. This action comes amid scrutiny from users and talent agencies, including CAA .'

We have heard feedback that this feature did not meet expectations, so we have made it unavailable.'

As a result of this incident, Grok was temporarily blocked in Indonesia and Malaysia .

Furthermore, SpaceXAI (formerly xAI), the developer of X, is being sued for Grok generating child sexual abuse content (CSAM).
