OpenAI has discontinued its AI-powered browser, ChatGPT Atlas.



ChatGPT Atlas is a web browser developed by OpenAI that centers around AI. James Sun, a product staff member at OpenAI who was also involved in the development of ChatGPT Atlas, officially announced on X (formerly Twitter) that ChatGPT Atlas would be discontinued.



ChatGPT Atlas, developed by OpenAI, is a web browser with ChatGPT at its core, and is characterized by three core functions: 'Chat anywhere,' which allows users to chat on any page; 'Browser memory,' which remembers user behavior and understands the context; and 'Agent mode,' in which ChatGPT takes over operations.

On July 9, 2026, OpenAI released 'ChatGPT Work,' which integrates ChatGPT and Codex, and also released a new ChatGPT desktop application.

We will be gradually phasing out the standalone Atlas browser and will be guiding users on how to migrate to ChatGPT,' thus reiterating the decision to discontinue Atlas.
