Claude Fable 5 is an AI model from Anthropic released in June 2026, which imposes security restrictions on Claude Mythos 5, a model provided to government organizations and some companies with the aim of enhancing cyber defense capabilities.

Initially, it was announced that Claude Fable 5 would be offered as a promotional item on Claude's subscription-based paid plan until 4 PM JST on July 8, 2026, after which it would switch to a pay-as-you-go model using usage credits.

However, just a few days after its release, Anthropic announced it would discontinue Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5. This was because the U.S. National Security Agency issued an export control order ordering Anthropic to cease providing Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 to all foreigners, including its foreign employees, both inside and outside the United States.

Originally, users with a paid plan were supposed to be able to try Claude Fable 5 for about a month, but due to the discontinuation, the actual trial period was shortened to about 10 days. Therefore, on July 7, 2026, the original deadline for the service to be discontinued, Anthropic announced that 'the deadline for all paid plan users to access Claude Fable 5 will be extended until 4 PM JST on July 13.'

During the trial period, users with a paid plan can use Claude Fable 5 up to 50% of their weekly usage limit at no additional cost. If they exceed this limit, they can continue using it by consuming their usage credits.

As before, you can use up to 50% of your weekly usage limit on Claude Fable 5. After that, you can keep using Fable 5 with usage credits, or switch to another model to keep working within your remaining limits.

The API usage fees for Claude Fable 5 are $10 (approximately 1623 yen) per million input tokens and $50 (approximately 8114 yen) per million output tokens. When using prompt caching, a 5-minute cache write costs $12.50 (approximately 2029 yen) per million tokens, a 1-hour cache write costs $20 (approximately 3246 yen) per million tokens, and cache hits and refreshes cost $1 (approximately 162 yen) per million tokens.
