Apple may release the second-generation iPhone Air in Spring 2027, featuring a dual rear camera system with an added ultra-wide-angle lens and improved battery life.

The iPhone Air , an ultra-thin iPhone released by Apple in September 2025, achieved its slim design through clever component placement , but it has been reported that production will be drastically reduced due to near-zero demand . Bloomberg has now reported on information regarding the second-generation model of the iPhone Air.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is well-versed in Apple-related leaks, has reported, citing sources within Apple, that 'Apple is preparing to release the second-generation iPhone Air in the spring of 2027.' It appears that Apple is planning several updates to enhance the appeal of the iPhone Air, which has seen weak demand.

According to sources, the development codename for the second-generation iPhone Air is 'V62.' The iPhone Air currently only has a single 48-megapixel camera. However, the V62 prototype's rear camera has been upgraded to a dual-camera system with the addition of an ultra-wide-angle lens. Apple believes that the performance limitations of the iPhone Air's single camera are the source of the most customer complaints.

While the device's appearance will remain unchanged, Apple is reportedly working on improving battery life. However, it's unclear whether this will be achieved by installing a larger capacity battery or by improving power efficiency.

According to reporter Gurman, the iPhone Air is part of Apple's efforts to expand its iPhone business. Apple plans to further expand its iPhone business by releasing a foldable iPhone in 2026 and a 20th-anniversary iPhone with a curved display that wraps around the edges of the device in 2027.

If Apple releases the second-generation iPhone Air in the spring of 2027, there will be a gap of about a year and a half between the first-generation iPhone Air and the second-generation iPhone Air. However, Bloomberg pointed out that 'the product release date and specifications may ultimately change.'

Apple has traditionally announced iPhones in September, but it appears they are planning to release high-end models in September and more affordable models in the spring. Therefore, the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and foldable iPhone are expected to be announced in September 2026, followed by the second-generation iPhone Air and iPhone 18 in the spring of 2027. Finally, the second-generation foldable iPhone and a curved iPhone are expected to be announced in the fall of 2027.

The second-generation iPhone Air is expected to feature an improved version of the A20 Pro, which is the successor to the A19 Pro found in the iPhone 17 Pro. The A20 Pro is also the chip expected to be included in the iPhone 18 Pro.

The iPhone Air boasts the thinnest design in the smartphone industry, but this thinness comes at a cost, sacrificing some features found in the Pro models. Nevertheless, Bloomberg points out that 'the iPhone Air plays an important role in Apple's product lineup.' It further notes that not all customers are looking for the features and performance of the Pro models; some are simply seeking a product with an eye-catching design and superior portability.

Apple has previously sold smaller models like the mini and larger, more affordable models like the Plus, but none of them sold very well. The iPhone Air is reportedly selling much better than these discontinued models, which is said to be the reason why Apple is taking its time to release the second-generation iPhone Air.
