I took a close look at the exterior of Sony's α7R VI mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, which boasts a maximum resolution of 66.9 million pixels.
Sony's full-frame mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, the α7R VI , was released on June 5, 2026. The α7R VI is equipped with a stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and can capture photos up to 66.9 megapixels. In addition, its BIONZ XR2 image processing engine with built-in AI processing capabilities allows for AF/AE calculations up to 60 times per second. We were able to borrow the α7R VI, so we first took a detailed look at its exterior.

Sony's full-frame sensor cameras include the flagship 'α1 series,' the 'α9 series' capable of ultra-high-speed continuous shooting, the 'α7R series' with a high pixel count, the 'α7S series' that supports high-sensitivity shooting, the 'α7 series' with basic performance, the compact 'α7C series,' and the 'VLOGCAM ZV-E1' which is specialized for vlogging. The α7R VI boasts the highest resolution among the α series, with an effective maximum of approximately 66.8 million pixels.
This is what the α7R VI looks like. Magnesium alloy is used for the 'top cover,' 'front cover,' 'internal frame,' and 'rear cover.' In addition, it is designed with dust and splash resistance in mind, with sealing structures placed in various parts.
The mount is an E-mount, and the sensor is a 35mm full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor. The mount is secured with six screws, providing high rigidity that allows you to handle large super-telephoto lenses with confidence.

The electronic viewfinder is 0.64 inches in size and has 9,437,184 dots.
The LCD monitor is 3.2 inches in size with 2,095,104 pixels. It supports touch operation.
When you hold the camera vertically, the UI switches to a portrait orientation.
The LCD monitor employs a mechanism called a '4-axis multi-angle LCD monitor,' which combines the convenience of both tilt and vari-angle displays. The vertical angle can be adjusted as follows:
Furthermore, in addition to adjusting the vertical angle, you can freely adjust the angle just like a vari-angle monitor.

A multi-interface shoe is located at the top of the viewfinder, allowing you to attach a flash or microphone.
The bottom has a tripod mount and a battery slot.

The left side of the unit, when viewed from the back, features an external connection terminal.
I opened all the terminal covers. There's an HDMI port, a sync terminal, a microphone jack, a headphone jack, and two USB Type-C ports.
There is a memory card slot on the opposite side.
Two memory cards can be inserted. Either an SD card or a CFexpress 2 Type A card can be inserted into each slot.

The combined weight of the 'α7R VI,' 'FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II,' and 'battery' is 1460g.
I tried holding it with both hands. The grip shape is excellent; when I firmly grasp it with my right hand, my finger naturally rests on the shutter button.
