'SW-DLT' allows you to download and save YouTube videos directly to your iPhone or iPad for free, with downloads possible in just a few taps from the YouTube app.

' SW-DLT ' is a shortcut tool for saving videos, audio, images, and other files on iPhones and iPads. Although it requires the installation of the terminal app 'a-Shell,' it can be installed simply by installing the shortcut available on GitHub, so I decided to give it a try.

To use SW-DLT, you need to install the terminal app 'a-Shell' on your iPhone or iPad. Instructions on how to install a-Shell are explained in the following article.

I tried out 'a-Shell,' a free terminal app that runs on iPhones and iPads. It can execute CLI tools like Python and yt-dlp, and also supports shortcut integration - GIGAZINE

Once a-Shell is installed, open the SW-DLT release page and tap the URL after 'DOWNLOAD LINK:'.

Tap 'Open' to open it in the Shortcuts app.

Tap 'Add shortcut'.

If 'SW-DLT' has been added like this, then you're ready.

Open YouTube and tap the share button on the video you want to download.

Tap 'Other'.

Tap 'SW-DLT'.

You will be asked for permission to access a-Shell, so tap 'Allow'.

I also tapped 'Allow' for notifications.

You will be asked for permission to access youtube.com. Tap 'Always allow'.

You can choose what to download. This time, I wanted to download the movie as is, so I tapped 'Download Video' at the top.

You can select the movie quality. Tap 'Default'.

You will be asked for permission to share YouTube content with a-Shell. Tap 'Always allow'.

This should allow me to download it, but for some reason, the YouTube app opened and displayed the message 'This video cannot be played,' and then stopped.

Return to the Shortcuts app and manually launch 'SW-DLT'.

You will be asked, 'Do you want to resume the download?' Tap 'Accept'.

The movie has been downloaded. Tap the down arrow to the right of the title.

Then, you can save it wherever you like.

This time I used the a-Shell app, but SW-DLT can also be used with the a-Shell mini app. SW-DLT is explicitly described as 'a tool for downloading content that you explicitly own or have the right to download.'
