Director Martin Scorsese has joined Black Forest Labs as an advisor, supporting the company's efforts to 'form visual intelligence.' Scorsese plans to use Flux to bring his ideas to life while placing human preferences, values, and judgment at the heart of his work. He stated that 'the problem of how to communicate what I envision in my head to the cast and crew has always been there,' and that Flux can be used as a means to achieve this.
In a video released by Black Forest Labs, director Scorsese talks about the difficulties he experienced in information sharing while working on 'Goodfellas.'

Director Scorsese described the long take of the protagonist entering the nightclub 'Copacabana' (Copacabana one-shot) as 'the most complex shoot.' Scorsese said, 'The sequence of scenes consisted of at least 10 to 12 short segments, and for each of them we had to physically consider the lighting positions and how to transition between scenes. The camera had to convey to the audience that the protagonist was being led to a special place. This is what you might call cinematic intelligence, something that can never be explained in words. You have to feel it. However, with a tool like Flux, we could solve the problem much faster, saving production time and reducing the burden on the staff.'

The video also shows director Scorsese using Flux to recreate the images he envisions. After several adjustments, Scorsese comments on the displayed images, saying things like, 'It's getting better.'
In a statement posted on the Black Forest Labs website, director Scorsese said, 'We must not forget that film is still a young medium, with a history of only about 125 years. Therefore, we must be open to how film will evolve. I used 3D technology in ' Hugo' and de- aging technology in ' The Irishman .' Now, with this tool (Flux), I can clearly and efficiently share what I envision with the creative team, including production designers, art designers, and cinematographers. They can then develop it further and enrich the cinematic intelligence.'
