Microsoft releases image generation AI 'MAI-Image-2.5,' boasting the world's third-best ability to generate images from text.

Microsoft announced its image generation AI, ' MAI-Image-2.5, ' on May 26, 2026. MAI-Image-2.5 has been ranked as the third-best performing image generation AI in the world by the third-party organization 'Arena.'

Microsoft has been developing its own AI series, 'MAI,' and in October 2025, it announced its first in-house developed image generation AI, ' MAI-Image-1 .' Subsequently, in April 2026, it released the upgraded version ' MAI-Image-2 ' and the high-speed-focused ' MAI-Image-2-Efficient .' The newly released MAI-Image-2.5 is touted as having significantly improved image quality and text rendering performance compared to MAI-Image-2.
