In its financial results presentation materials for the fiscal year ending March 2026 , released in May 2026, Nintendo projected sales of 16.5 million units for the Nintendo Switch 2 in fiscal year 2027 (April 2026 to March 2027).

However, sources have revealed that Nintendo asked its partner companies and suppliers to assemble approximately 20 million Nintendo Switch 2 units, about 20% more than that number.
According to sources who spoke to Bloomberg, Nintendo's production plans for the Nintendo Switch 2 are not final and may change depending on demand. Bloomberg reports that Nintendo is confident it can further boost sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 based on its upcoming lineup of titles.

Bloomberg noted, 'Nintendo has a history of releasing conservative earnings forecasts at the beginning of the fiscal year and then exceeding them. This is a common practice among Japanese companies.'
In May 2025, Nintendo projected sales of 15 million units for the Nintendo Switch 2 in fiscal year 2026 (April 2025 to March 2026), but the final sales figure was 19.86 million units.
Since its release in June 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 has set numerous sales records. Within four months of its launch, it sold 10.36 million units , becoming the best-selling game console in the United States by 2025.
However, not only has it been reported that demand in the US market will be sluggish in 2026, but Nintendo has also just recently raised prices in light of the current situation.

Bloomberg points out that the Nintendo Switch 2 hasn't sold as many games as the original Nintendo Switch did at launch, and that the Nintendo Switch needs a major hit like ' The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild .'
Game industry analyst Serkan Toto commented, 'Consumers will eventually get used to price increases, and Nintendo has creative ways to reduce the burden on consumers, such as bundle sales. My prediction is that Nintendo Switch 2 will sell 18 million units this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if the actual sales are higher.'
