Access Middle-earth Interactive Map. Click 'Enter Middle-earth'.

The map can be moved by dragging, and zooming in and out is possible with the mouse wheel.

I zoomed in on the area around Fangorn Forest. Orthanc Tower is nearby.

Click on the red point in Fangorn Forest. A pop-up will then appear displaying information about events and artworks that have taken place in Fangorn Forest, along with details of those events.

It's also possible to display the routes taken by the characters in the story directly on a map. For example, the route taken by Merry and Pippin in ' The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ' is shown in orange below.
Furthermore, you can select an event displayed in the right column and find its location on the map.

Additionally, turning on the 'Satelite View' switch at the bottom of the right column replaced the map with a satellite-style image.

The developers told the social news site Hacker News , 'We developed this interactive map from an economy seat on an American Airlines flight between the East and West Coasts of the United States.' They added, 'The map is basically based on the original novels and does not reflect the settings of Peter Jackson's live-action film trilogy, ' The Lord of the Rings '.'
