Graphics cards equipped with high-end GPUs from NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40 series onward are equipped with connectors called 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6. These connectors are known to cause cable melting if inserted improperly, and NVIDIA has warned users to insert the cables all the way in.

The beta version of Afterburner 4.6.7 adds a feature that displays a warning when it detects that the 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 cable is not properly plugged in. This warning feature is only available when using an MSI power supply that supports the ' GPU Safeguard+ ' safety feature, but GPU Safeguard+ was only announced in January 2026, and no compatible power supplies have yet been released.

If a PC equipped with a compatible power supply detects an incorrect connection, a warning screen like the one below will appear. The warning screen reads, 'A faulty 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 connection has been detected. To minimize risk, power output to the GPU will be limited to 75%.'
