The shoes were found on the coast of Ogmore-by-Sea in South Wales, UK.

The Beach Academy discovered the large number of black leather shoes while working in the coastal area of Ogmore-by-Sea as part of a reef restoration project. According to a Facebook post by the Beach Academy, the discovery totaled 200 pairs in just one week.

The discovered leather shoes look like this.

The sole and other parts remained in their original shape.

As of the end of December 2025, 437 pairs of leather shoes had been found. The exact origin of the leather shoes is unknown, but the Beach Academy explains that 'the most likely theory is that they come from the ship 'Frolic', which was wrecked on a journey from Italy to England about 150 years ago.'
