Tesla's 'Dojo' supercomputer team disbands, with members reportedly moving to data center company DensityAI

Bloomberg, citing inside information, reported that the team behind Tesla's AI supercomputer, Dojo, will be disbanded and its leader will leave the company, with some members reportedly moving to startups.

Dojo is a supercomputer whose existence was revealed in 2021. Several chips have been manufactured based on Dojo's architecture, and it was revealed that a chip called 'AI6' will be manufactured at a Samsung factory in 2025. AI6 is expected to be used in vehicles, robots, data centers, etc.

However, according to an anonymous source who spoke to Bloomberg, the team developing Dojo has been disbanded.
According to sources, Tesla CEO Elon Musk ordered the shutdown of Dojo, and Peter Bannon, who led Dojo, left Tesla. About 20 of Dojo's members moved to a startup called DensityAI, while the rest were reassigned to other teams within Tesla.
The source said, 'Tesla plans to increase its reliance on external partners, such as outsourcing computing to Nvidia and AMD and chip manufacturing to Samsung.'
At the time of writing, Musk has not commented on the matter.

DensityAI is developing chips, hardware, and software for AI data centers across a variety of applications, including robotics, AI agents, and automobiles. According to Bloomberg, DensityAI was founded by Ganesh Venkatarananan, former head of Dojo, and former Tesla employees Bill Chang and Ben Froehling.
Tesla's shares fell slightly following the Bloomberg report.
