Valdemir's story has spread outside of Norway, and in 2023 a documentary titled ' The Lonely Spy Dolphin Named Valdemir ' was broadcast on NHK.
Valdemir, beloved by the Norwegian people, was found dead and floating in Lysavika, southern Norway, on the afternoon of August 31, 2024. The cause of death is unknown, and an autopsy is underway at the time of writing.
The Natural History Museum in Oslo wants to collect tissue samples from Valdemir's remains, while OneWhale wants him cremated and his ashes scattered at sea.
