EndeavorRx, the first FDA-approved game to improve attention in children ages 8 to 17 with ADHD

A game called EndeavorRx , which is approved as a 'treatment' for ADHD for children between the ages of 8 and 17, has been released. You can check out what kind of game it is through the demo version.

EndeavorRx is an action game for smartphones that requires players to move an autonomous vehicle left and right to pick up items, avoid obstacles, and even tap the screen under certain conditions.

EndeavorRx is only available in the United States at the time of writing. The demo version is free and anyone can play it, but to play the full version you need a prescription from a medical professional. The cost is $99 (about 15,000 yen) per 30 days and is covered by insurance (FSA / HSA). It is required to be used only as a supplement to the main treatment program.

Review of smartphone game 'EndeavorRx' as a 'treatment' made for children with ADHD - YouTube

On the game's title screen, you'll be asked if you have a prescription and if you want to play the demo version.

A mysterious creature immediately appears and begins explaining the game. There is no mention of 'this game is part of the treatment' and the story is introduced in a cheerful tone, saying 'Let's explore a world of space that you've never seen before!'

Next comes the tutorial. At first, you are prompted to tap the screen when a 'red creature' appears on the screen.

Practice a few times. When a red creature appears, tap anywhere on the screen. Yellow and blue creatures may also appear, but in these cases, ignore them and do not tap.

This time you will be prompted to tilt your smartphone to move the vehicle.

Move the vehicle, which moves forward automatically, left and right to collect purple items.

This time you'll be asked to tap on creatures and control your vehicle at the same time.

From here, you will continue to operate simultaneously for about 30 seconds. The more purple items you collect, the faster your vehicle will accelerate and the faster the creatures will move, making the game more difficult.

After playing for a while, the 'calibration' started. It seems that the difficulty level is being adjusted based on the score so far.

The game continued for another 30 seconds or so, then the game ended when I crossed the finish line.

Since it was a demo version, there was no score calculation, and after the introduction page for the main game was displayed, I was returned to the title screen.

In the game, scores are recorded daily and shared with supervising medical professionals. In a preliminary study, children who played EndeavorRx for four weeks showed improvements in attention function.
