In late March 2023, Singaporean software company NCS lost access to a system used to test pre-release software and programs. After an internal investigation, it was discovered that all of the approximately 180 virtual servers that made up the system had been deleted. NCS filed a police report.

Investigations revealed that the accused, Kandula Nagaraju, who was fired from NCS, illegally accessed the company's systems and ran a script to delete the virtual servers.

Defendant Nagaraju was a system administrator in the quality assurance team from November 2021 to October 2022, working on the system that was the target of the attack, but due to poor performance, his contract was terminated with his final employment date being November 16, 2022. The defendant believed that he had made a positive contribution to the company and was 'confused and upset' when he was fired.

After losing his job and returning to India, the defendant illegally accessed the NCS system six times between January 6 and 17, 2023, using his login information from his employment. After finding work and returning to Singapore in February, he shared a room with a colleague from his time at NCS, and illegally accessed the system once from this room.

Thirteen unauthorized accesses were recorded in March 2023, of which the unauthorized access on March 18-19 executed a script to delete virtual servers. The script was coded after searching on Google, and it was designed to delete servers one by one.

NCS said the system in question was a standalone test system and did not store any classified information, but it caused a loss of S$917,832.

On June 10, 2024, Nagaraju was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for unauthorized access.
