Chinese solar module prices are plummeting
OPIS, a Dow Jones-affiliated energy research firm, reports that the price of solar cell modules has plummeted in China. It has been pointed out that the oversupply of solar cell modules is affecting the price decline, and it is suggested that the downward trend may continue in the future.

The graph below shows the price transition of polysilicon, which is the material of solar cells. The price of polysilicon has continued to decline since March 2023, and the price as of March 2023 was about 220 yuan (about 4400 yen) per kg, but on June 13, 2023, it was 78 per kg. It fell to the yuan (about 1554 yen).
Affected by the falling price of polysilicon, the price of solar cell modules has also fallen for four consecutive weeks, and on June 20, 2023, it recorded a low price of $ 0.173 (about 25 yen) per 1 W.
According to OPIS, there is an oversupply of polysilicon and solar modules in China. In addition, due to the continuing overstock situation in Europe, where solar cell modules made in China are shipped, the prices of polysilicon and solar cell modules are expected to continue to fall in the future.
