Life-size `` Votoms '' I visited the mechanical design of designer Kunio Okawara in Inagi City, a town where scope dogs stand

The hometown of Kunio Okawara , who is known for his mechanical designs for numerous anime and games, such as the Mobile Suit Gundam series, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, and Yatterman.

Inagi City , Tokyo is promoting a project called ' Mechanical Designer Kunio Okawara Project ' as 'MECHANICAL CITY INAGI'. Famously, there is a life-size monument of the humanoid weapon Scope Dog that appears in the anime 'Armored Trooper Votoms' in front of Inagi Naganuma Station on the JR Nambu Line. There are many other things scattered around the city, so I went around.

◆Around Inagi Naganuma Station
The base for exploration is JR Nambu Line Inagi Naganuma Station. There are many items around this station.

In front of the station is the Inagi Naganuma Ekimae bus stop for community buses and

i buses .

The character drawn above the bus stop

is Inagi Nashinosuke , the official image character of Inagi City. Mr. Okawara and Mr. Jet Inoue created a 'pear-shaped mechanism' with the motif of pears, a specialty product of Inagi.

Char's Zaku and Gundam standing under the overpass on the east side of the station. Since the height is about 3.6m, it is roughly 1/5 scale.

Nashinosuke and Nachinochuke are also there.

Behind the place where Char's Zaku and Gundam are located is the 'Inagi Transmission Base Pair Terrace'.

In addition to disseminating tourist information, there is a special product sales space and a cafe space.

Nashinosuke and Haro lined up in the store.

There are also illustrations and books related to Mr. Okawara.

Past posters of the 'Mecha Designers Summit' held since 2012.

There is a design manhole across the pedestrian crossing between Inagi Naganuma Station and Pair Terrace.

It is a design manhole of Gundam.

And there is a scope dog from the animation 'Armored Trooper Votoms' on the other side of the statue of Nashinosuke.

It faces north, so if you visit in the afternoon, you will be carrying the sun on your back.

This scope dog was installed on March 15, 2020.

The height is 3.8m, the actual size (1/1 scale) as set in the work.

It is the same size as Gundam and Char's Zaku under the overpass.

Depending on the angle, it feels like you are standing in a residential area.

Looking from a distance it looks like this.

Two types of design plates are installed in the irrigation canal near the pair terrace.

To the north of the station is the Inagi City 4th Cultural Center.

Illustrations drawn by Mr. Okawara and signs and plastic models donated by Mr. Okawara are displayed here.

In addition, there is a Gundam statue in the citizen lobby on the first floor of Inagi City Hall. Please note that you can enter the city hall from 8:30 to 17:00 on weekdays.

◆Around Minamitama Station
I went to the north exit of Minamitama Station, the next station to Inagi Naganuma Station.

Here is Yatterwan's design manhole.

Coco is the place. It's right next to the north exit, but there's no particular landmark, so if you don't know in advance, you might not notice it.

The south exit is a bus terminal.

At its eastern end, there is the Yatterwan Monument with a photography platform.

The height is about 2m.

This monument was donated by

Nippon Filcon , headquartered in Inagi City, to commemorate the company's 100th anniversary.

◆Around Yanoguchi Station
Another station next to Inagi Naganuma Station, Yanoguchi Station.

Here is the design manhole of Magnum Ace of 'Gale! Iron Leaguer'.

The location is right outside the south exit of the station.

◆Around Wakabadai Station
The last station is Wakabadai Station on the Keio Sagamihara Line. From the north exit of the station, go up to the bus terminal.

In addition, proceed to the front of the TV Asahi building.

A manhole cover designed by Inagi Nashinosuke has been installed.

These items are scattered widely in Inagi city, but it is possible to go around in about 2-3 hours. To get to Wakabadai Station from the Nambu Line, you can change trains at Inadazutsumi Station or take the i-Bus.

In addition, from 13:00 on March 18, 2023 (Saturday), manga artist and animator Yoshikazu Yasuhiko with Mr. Okawara, screenwriter Kenichi Matsuzaki, and freelance writer Makoto Ishii will announce the 'timeless masterpiece' Mobile Suit Gundam. ” was born,” will be held at Pair Terrace.
