Looking inside it looks like this. The 1st generation AirPods Pro (right) has a part that comes inside the ear when worn on the ear and a black part that is smooth in the stem direction. This is the part where the sensor is built in to determine whether the user is wearing AirPods Pro, but in the case of the 2nd generation AirPods Pro (left), the sensor on the stem side is gone.
