``GIGAZINE Manga Award'' Recruitment started in August 2022 & How to apply for manga help and how to apply is like this

GIGAZINE's manga works may be asked to help 'help' separately from the original / drawing, mainly for color progress etc. Where and how much cooperation will depend on the work, but in addition to helping from the line drawing to the underlining, background line drawing, and coloring, the financial burden on the author is zero. I think that it is information that will be of interest to those who are considering applying for the GIGAZINE Manga Award , so I asked ``How is it progressing in works where help people are active?'

' What is it?' In addition to works such as manga and original scripts, portfolio drawing and name composition applications, we are also looking for applications to participate as helpers, so please check the application requirements for each.

I've already read the application requirements, so apply anyway! For those who say, please use the application form .

◆Recommendations for applying for the Manga Award “What is a help job like?”
About 'help' that helps you with manga coloring and background drawing, how is it progressing with completely remote work, what kind of work is it active in, and what is the process from applying for help to hiring? I tried to summarize whether it is such a procedure.

I use Trello , a task management software, for everything from asking for help to working. If a help task you want to request occurs, create a task card in the 'What to do next' on the left side of the image and send the request. Notifications will be sent to everyone participating as help, so if you reply 'I will work on this task', move to 'What to do now' in the center of the image and start working. When the work is completed, it is checked and moved to 'Completed' to manage the work status.

The contents of the 'task card' that sends a request to help look like the image below. In addition to the request content such as 'Where on this page do you want me to work?', it also explains how to manage and name different layers for each work, and you can attach images to Trello cards, so it is a reference page. It is also possible to devise a way to check smoothly by pasting and materials.

For example, taking the manga '

Secret Palace ' as an example, we asked the helper to create a background line drawing based on the line drawing of the character in charge of drawing, and the original staff checked whether it matched the image.

If there is no problem with the background line drawing, proceed to coloring the background.

After that, I will pass the baton to another helper and have them put in the underpainting of the character.

Finally, the drawing staff processed shadows and lights to fuse the background and characters, and other fine final processing was completed.

In particular, 'Secret Palace' is set in the near future with a sci-fi feel, so there are many cases where helpers greatly cooperate in the design and painting of near-future items and buildings. On the following page, the background from the parking lot to the room like the operating room is drawn with the name on the left of the image, but only the character is penned by the drawing staff in the line drawing on the right of the image.

The details behind this have been solidified by the help people. Based on the reference materials provided by the person in charge of the original work, I created line drawings of the parking lot, cart, corridor, and interior as shown on the left of the image below, and colored the background and characters as shown on the right of the image. It was at this time that I came up with the idea of painting the hallway and the room in bluish white.

Also, since the cart that the helper drew in detail will appear on other pages, I asked them to share 'what settings they drew'. In this way, depending on the work, the help person contributes greatly.

When applying for help, access the

application form and upload your portfolio as a PDF file or image file from 'Upload work', or upload the URL of the website or file sharing software that summarizes your portfolio to 'Work address / Enter in URL.

After entering the necessary information, it is OK if you comment 'Help application' in 'Other necessary information that you should know' at the end. Once we receive your help application, we will send you a 'trial help assignment' after reviewing your portfolio, so if you clear it, you will be able to participate as help.

In addition, if you have any questions about the application, or if you have any concerns about 'Is this form acceptable?',
