The ' frame rate ' is the number of times the video frame including the game is displayed per unit time, and the ' refresh rate ' is the number of times the display displaying the video is rewritten per unit time. The frame rate of the game fluctuates during game play, but the refresh rate of the display is basically fixed, so dropped frames and flickering may occur and the actual video performance may deteriorate. VRR is the technology that solves this problem. By connecting VRR-compatible media to a VRR-compatible display, you can synchronize the refresh rate of the display with fluctuations in the frame rate of the media and improve video performance.

It is said that PS5 VR support will be gradually done over several days via the network for the whole world. SIE states that VRR can be turned on and off from the settings.

According to SIE, VRR-compatible patches will be distributed in the following titles.

ASTRO's PLAYROOM
Call of Duty Vanguard
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
DEATHLOOP
Destiny 2
Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
DIRT 5
Godfall
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Ratchet & Clank Parallel Trouble
BIOHAZARD VILLAGE
Wonderlands ~ Tiny Tina and the Magical World
Rainbow Six Siege
Tribes of Midgard

If you have a TV or PC monitor that supports HDMI 2.1 / VRR, you can dynamically synchronize the refresh rate of the display with the graphics output of the PS5, improving the visual performance of the PS5.

In addition, SIE states that even for PS5 titles that do not support VRR other than the above, the video quality may be improved by turning on VRR in some cases.
