'Soy ham cutlet burger' using soy meat appeared from Komeda, I actually ate and examined the reproducibility of ham cutlet

While 'plant-derived artificial meat' is attracting attention due to growing interest in global warming, Komeda Coffee Shop launched ' Soy Ham Katsu Burger ' using 'soy meat' ham cutlet made mainly from soybeans in October 2021. It is on sale from the 20th. I was wondering what the soybean meat hamukatsu tasted like, so I actually tried it.

This time the burger is not meat! 'Soy ham cutlet burger' using soy meat will be on sale nationwide from October 20th (Wednesday) for a limited time!

Arrived at Komeda coffee shop.

Komeda Coffee Shop can take out not only eat-in but also

some menus (PDF file) such as coffee and hamburgers. It is possible to take out soybean ham cutlet burger for a limited time, so this time I ordered it by takeout.

Provided in a plastic package at takeout.

Opened. This is a soy ham cutlet burger.

The buns are the same as the hamburgers offered at Komeda coffee shops, and are larger than ordinary hamburgers.

The soybean hamukatsu in question is below. It's a normal croquette-like fried food for the purpose of looking, and its diameter is one or two times smaller than the buns.

Above the buns are sliced onions and sauce.

The lower side is lined with shredded cabbage and carrots.

Below is how I put a knife in to see the cross section.

Soybean ham cutlet is a normal ham-like pink color, but it has a 'paste' -like texture like fish sausage. It is not a so-called hamukatsu, but a thick type that can be described as 'thick slices'.

When I actually eat it, the sauce is quite thick and it overwrites the original taste of soybean hamukatsu, but I can certainly feel the ham-like 'flesh'. As for the texture, the buns are fluffy, the cabbage is crispy, and the soybean hamukatsu batter is crispy.

The darker the sauce, the more like hamukatsu, but I felt that the taste of the soybean hamukatsu was cheated by the taste of the sauce, so I decided to eat only the ham part. When I try to eat only the ham part with pinpoint, it seems that the greasiness of the meat is modest, but the result is 'almost ham'. I didn't know that it was soybeans unless I was told, and even if I was told, I had the impression that it had reached a level that made me want to say, 'Oh, really soybean ham?'

'Soy hamukatsu burger' can be purchased at Komeda coffee shops nationwide except for some stores from October 20, 2021 (Wednesday) to the end of November 2021. Prices vary from store to store, ranging from 580 yen to 610 yen including tax.
