A Bitcoin mining farm was found when British police investigated an industrial park on the outskirts of Birmingham on 'suspicion of growing marijuana.'

Immediately before the house investigation, police were observing people entering and exiting the building all day and found that the building had 'extensive ventilation' and 'wiring.' In addition, the drone used by the police for the investigation was detecting a large amount of heat released from inside the building. Indoor secret marijuana farms use large amounts of light, heating, and ventilation systems to grow marijuana indoors. Therefore, police considered the building to be an 'illegal marijuana farm' and conducted a house investigation.

About 100 Bitcoin mining machines called Antminer S9 were found in the building. In other words, the hot air emitted from the building was generated by Bitcoin mining, and the large-scale ventilation system in the building was for cooling the Bitcoin mining machine.

Bitcoin mining is not illegal if you pay for electricity. However, in the case of this building, thousands of pounds (hundreds of thousands of yen) of electricity were illegally used, so police during a drug investigation decided to close the Bitcoin mining farm.

The mining machine seized by the police is said to be worth $ 5,000 (about 550,000 yen), but the mining company was not arrested.
