The display is being rewritten so fast that you cannot see it. The rewrite speed is expressed by the 'refresh rate'. If the refresh rate is 60Hz, the update rate is 60 times per second, and if the refresh rate is 120Hz, the update rate is 120 times per second. It can be said that the larger this value, the faster the switching and the smoother the drawing.

Generally, the refresh rate of the display is fixed, and in recent smartphones, power consumption tends to increase by fixing it to 120Hz for smooth drawing.

The Adaptive Frequency technology developed by Samsung Display this time is 120Hz when using mobile games that require high-speed screen switching, 60Hz when watching movies, 30Hz when displaying/inputting email, and 10Hz when viewing photos or SNS. By changing the refresh rate, the drive power of the display can be reduced by up to 22% compared to the conventional method.

The '10Hz' that is supported this time is the first for smartphones, and when operating at 10Hz, the maximum driving power is reduced to 60% compared to the conventional model.

This technology is said to be installed in the 6.9-inch smartphone 'Galaxy Note20 Ultra' announced at 'Galaxy UNPACKED 2020.'
