Unlike Android, which is developed as open source, iOS is proprietary software that technically limits the modification of its contents. Therefore, you need to 'jailbreak' when adding apps or features to your iOS device that are not approved by Apple.

Apple has taken the position that 'Jailbreaking is a copyright infringement contrary to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) .' In addition, a page that encourages iOS users to refrain from using the jailbreak tool is being published as 'It leads to security weaknesses and terminal instability.'

However, it was not Apple but the development team of the competing software ' unc0ver ' that applied for the deletion based on DMCA to the jailbreak tool 'Chimera13' this time.

In the DMCA application for GitHub, the unc0ver development team said, “Chimera13 is a copy of the copyrighted unc0ver program. The Chimera13 developers were previously shared for a limited unc0ver development team. It is believed that the source code was successfully obtained. As a result of comparing the source code that our infringer uploaded to Discord with the repository that was infringed, the code is based on the source code stolen from unc0ver. It was confirmed that it was the one that was done.”

In response to this DMCA notice, GitHub has removed Chimera 13. At the time of article creation, when you access the Chimera13 page , you will be notified that DMCA notifications have blocked the repository from being published.

TorrentFreak, a news site about file sharing and digital copyright, said, 'This removal request is interesting in several ways. First, the software development team who is evading the copyright violation with DMCA as a shield, We're using the same law to blame another jailbreak tool, and on top of that, there is controversy about unc0ver's allegations of DMCA violations.'

Chimera13 developer Coolstar on Twitter: 'We filed a challenge to false DMCA notifications made by pwn20wnd , a member of the unc0ver development team. Chimera 13 was open source months ago. And the technology used was originally used by Ian Beer.pwn20wnd was guilty of perjury because he applied for a false DMCA notice knowing this.' Insisted.

TorrentFreak commented on the disagreement between the two: 'It seems to be part of an ongoing feud between the two camps developing the jailbreak tools. In any case, GitHub disputed the Chimera 13 side. It will be interesting to see what kind of response they will receive.”

According to TorrentFreak, if the unc0ver development team does not bring this issue to court, Chimera 13 will be re-published within two weeks according to the DMCA procedure.
