Which is Intel or AMD that can make pancakes well with a high-end CPU for high-end PCs?

Both the 18-core and 36-thread Intel

Core i9-9980XE and the 32-core and 64-thread AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX are high-end desktop CPUs that are priced around 200,000 yen. While many media are comparing the performance of both, Tom's Hardware, an overseas technical media, is conducting a comparative review with the idea of “ Which CPU can make pancake better? ”.

Which CPU Cooks a Better Pancake? Intel Core i9-9980XE or AMD Threadripper 2990WX?-YouTube

Pancakes are baked by Andrew's Hardware editors Andrew E. Friedman and Sharon Hardin.

The first challenge to make pancakes is Intel Core i9-9980XE.

The motherboard used is

MSI X299 XPOWER GAMING AC , and the thermal throttling has been changed from 100 ° C to 105 ° C from the BIOS.

Cooler Master

IceFusion is applied to the surface of the CPU as grease, much more than usual.

Of course, we also have maple syrup for pancakes.

Turn on the PC and pour the pancake dough into a 4.25 inch (about 10.7 cm) frying pan.

The CPU temperature immediately after switching on was about 74 ° C, but when the load was applied by running the benchmark software, it immediately increased to 104 ° C. According to Hardin, who is holding down the frying pan so that it adheres properly to the CPU, the frying pan is still quite hot, but it is still about to touch with bare hands.

When Mr. Friedman was about to flip the pancake, the PC shut down. In fact, the system went down because the cooling unit of the

voltage regulator module (VRM) was removed because it interfered when the frying pan was placed on the motherboard.

So, quickly install a cooling fan and bake the pancake while cooling by blowing wind from the side to the VRM.

About 18 minutes after the start of the experiment, the pancake was turned upside down, but the pancake itself is still stuck like a raw burn.

Then, after baking a little more firmly, using a small amount of olive oil, the pancake was turned over so that it was scraped off from the surface of the frying pan, and maple syrup was applied.

Eating a bite, Friedman commented, “I think it ’s not bad.” Pancakes baked with Intel Core i9-9980XE are battered and not beautiful, but they seem to have a decent taste as pancakes.

The next CPU to pancake is AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX.

The motherboard used is

MSI MEG X399 Creation . For the sake of fairness, he tried to change the thermal throttling to 105 ° C from the BIOS, but he couldn't. Also, it seems that it was not necessary to remove the VRM cooling unit this time.

As with the Intel Core i9-9980XE, there is plenty of Cooler Master IceFusion on the CPU.

Place the frying pan on the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX ...

Pour the pancake dough.

When the PC is in the idle state immediately after turning on the power, the CPU temperature is between 40 ° C and 50 ° C. 'The pancake dough may be an effective cooling device for the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX,' Friedman said.

So we decided to raise the CPU temperature by running a benchmark test. The dough surface begins to pop and bubbles, and the pancake seems to be baked smoothly ...

The system shut down like Intel Core i9-9980XE. When I examined it, it seems that the VRM cooling unit was quite hot, and cooled the VRM using a fan in the same way as in Core i9-9980XE. However, the computer could not be restarted no matter how many times it was done, and even if it restarted, it fell into a state where it shut down immediately. While the PC doesn't stand up, the temperature of the frying pan keeps falling.

And it was around 18 minutes as Intel Core i9-9980XE, so I decided to force it over.

“Is this pancake a little stumpy?” Friedman said. Mr. Hardin turns the pancake upside down with a hand like burning an omelet.

Just put maple syrup on top ...

Taste pancakes baked with Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX. In the latter half of the experiment, the temperature of the frying pan fell, so naturally the pancake was almost burnt and the texture was bobbed, Friedman commented, 'This is really terrible.' Mr. Hardin who put pancakes in his mouth grimaced unexpectedly.

In addition, as a reason why the PC could not restart even if the temperature dropped, Mr. Friedman guessed that `` It is caused by the BIOS of the motherboard '' and it seems that he asked AMD for details, but he did not get an answer is.

Mr. Friedman said about the results of this experiment, “In more realistic use cases such as games and content creation, Intel Core i9-9980XE and AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX each have their own strengths. When it was done, it was about the same performance, but it took less time to make the pancake on the Core i9-9980XE, the system only shut down once and the thermal “If you want to make pancakes with a CPU for high-end desktops, choose Intel,” he said.
