The research team led by Emma ThreadGold of the Central Lancashire University conducted three experiments on dozens of adult men and women who belong to the same university and have English as their mother tongue. In each experiment, participants solve the word puzzle called CRAT called creativity and measure the score. In the experiment, after conducting CRAT in a quiet environment, three kinds of (1) songs with foreign language songs, (2) songs without songs, and (3) songs with mother tongue songs While listening to the songs I have CRAT released again. From the three experiments, it turns out that CRAT score gets higher if you do not listen to music regardless of what kind of music you listen to, that is, creativity is enriching.

Compared to the results of CRAT in quiet environment, when performing CRAT while listening to music in all three experiments, the score of subject decreased significantly irrespective of whether or not song was present or whether it was audible lyrics. Also, even when a subject who performed CRAT while listening to a song with a native song entered "You are in good condition thanks to music", those who did a CRAT without listening to songs It seems that the score was high.

In addition, we tested with "Quiet (quiet environment)" "Music (listening to songs with native language songs)" "Library Noise (place where environmental sounds such as typing sounds and copy machine sounds)" The score of CRAT is now as shown in the graph below. The score shows that the larger the number, the better the result. If you test while listening to music in your mother tongue, the score of CRAT obviously becomes lower than doing a test in a quiet place or environmental sound, you notice that the creativity is adversely affected I will.

According to the paper, "According to the experiments, it is clear that CRAT results while listening to BGM will be worse compared to a quiet environment, whether voiced silent, favorite songs or disliked songs. It can be evidence that listening to music will hurt creativity. "
