At supermarkets in the United States, 'cookie dough' is on sale, where you can eat hot cookies just by slicing and baking. In the United States, many people like to eat this raw, and Haagen-Dazs and others sell 'cookie dough flavors '. Eating raw cookie dough is commonly known as 'good taste' because of the risk of salmonella infection by eggs, but the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses flour as well as eggs. We warn you not to eat raw cookie dough, as it may be dangerous.

The FDA has announced that eating or touching flour-containing dough such as cookies, cakes, breads, pizzas and tortillas can infect Shiga toxin- producing Escherichia coli O121. In the United States, it seems that it is customary to give homemade 'flour clay' to children, but since children can be infected with E. coli through the hands that touch the dough, flour clay is given to children for parents and kindergartens. I warn you not to give it.

It all started when a major food company, General Mills, recalled its own brand of flour, 'Gold Medal,' 'Signature Kitchen's,' and 'Gold Medal Wondra.' These products include unbleached flour, medium-strength flour, and flour with baking powder. Flour can be stored at home for long periods of time, so the FDA is urging you to go home and dispose of any flour you find. Because these flours are also used in restaurants, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging restaurants not to give their children flour clay.

According to the FDA, wheat, which is the raw material for wheat flour, may be contaminated with bacteria from the surface soaked with animal excrement, but wheat flour is not supposed to be eaten raw and is common. Has not been sterilized. Therefore, regardless of the flour manufacturer or brand, bacteria such as Escherichia coli may remain in raw cookie dough. These dangers can be prevented by cooking well by boiling, baking, frying, or heating in a microwave oven. If you really want to eat cookie dough raw, it is OK to eat a commercial product such as 'cookie dough flavored ice cream' that is supposed to be eaten raw.

If infected with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O121, symptoms such as diarrhea including bloody stools and abdominal cramps will continue for about a week. In some cases, it can be prolonged, and if prolonged, it can eventually become

fulminant to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). HUS can occur at any age, but people with weak immunity, such as infants and the elderly under the age of 5, are more likely to develop HUS.
